Schwarzenberger candle arch from SEIFFEN.COM by Nestler from Seiffen in the Ore Mountains
Candle arches or candle arches have been known since the 18th century and were initially only produced as unique items for miners. Series production only began in the last century and the candle arches began their triumphal march through living rooms, especially at Christmas time. With its warm light, the Schwarzenberg candle arch radiates comfort and people look forward to the festive season. The most traditional motif is probably the Schwarzenberg candle arch. This wonderful Christmas decoration goes back to the mining history of the Erzgebirge, when miners found their way home through the light in the windows after their work was done. The arches point to the entrance of a tunnel, the so-called mouth hole, which represented the entrance in a crescent shape.
Schwarzenberg motif known as the oldest depiction
The candle arch is equipped with seven classic lights, three watts each, above the arch, which conjure up a beautiful warm light in your home. The picture shows the life of miners. In the center, two miners in their traditional costumes hold the coat of arms of the Saxon electoral swords, below which the hammer and mallet are depicted as the symbols of the mine. On the right and left respectively, the candle arch shows a lace maker and a carver at work.
Typical Christian objects are also the candlestick spider (turned wooden ceiling chandelier), which is often fitted with four candles to herald the Advent season, or the floating angel of light announcing the arrival of the baby Jesus. The design is in natural colors and the arch impresses with its simplicity, which emphasizes the traditions of the Erzgebirge. There are many ways to decorate your home with this candle arch: you can place it at the window (possibly raised on a candle arch bench) or in the living room, children's room or on shelves and cupboards. No matter where it is placed, its contemplative, warming light will radiate into your heart.
